The Geneva Red Wings defeated the Newark Pilots on Friday off of some solid pitching and run support to back it up.
Geneva opened up the scoring early as Brandon Cooper hit a solo home run to center field. A single by Dylan Swarmer in the 2nd made it a 2-0 game.
Swarmer came through again with another single in the 4th. That same play, Brock Kauffman scored on a wild pitch as Geneva doubled their lead.
Michael Gorman singled in the 5th to give Newark their first run. David Bermudez followed that with an RBI single of his own to make it 4-2.
In the 6th, Swarmer doubled for his third hit and RBI of the night.
The Wings added four more insurance runs in the 7th. It started with an RBI double by Gow. Nick LaBrasca then scored off a wild pitch. Finally, a two-RBI single by Kauffman made it a 9-2 game.
Geneva’s starter Kobie Punchard had a solid outing of six innings, allowing two runs and striking out a season-high nine batters.
The Red Wings return home on Sunday as they take on the Pioneers at 5:05.
