Red Wings’ Offense Leads Way in Win Over Pioneers

By Connor Griffin

The Geneva Red Wings defeated the Elmira Pioneers 11-6 on Sunday with an offensive surge.

Their work started in the 1st when Trevor Rogers (San Francisco St) would single and bring home Brainy Rojas (East Stroudsburg Univ). A couple of batters later, Logan Kellerman’s (Furman Univ) single would knock in two more, giving Geneva an early 3-0 lead.

In the 2nd, Elmira would get one back as Quinn Buffington hit a double to score Trae Harmon.  Elmira would then score again in the 3rd, as Mason Ruhlman hit an RBI double to make it 3-2.

A double by Harrison Treble (Pace Univ), followed by a Kellerman single, increased the Wings’ lead by two.

The next inning, Brock Kauffman (East Stroudsburg) grounded into a double play but would still drive in a run making it a 6-2 game.

In the sixth, it would be Kellerman again, as the catcher would double making it a five-run game.

The Pioneers would fight back though. With two runners on, Garett Shultz hit a bases-clearing double. Nathan Berg would then drive in Shultz to cut the lead to two. In the eighth, Preston Moore would come through with a big RBI triple making it a 7-6 lead.

From there, the Wings would halt Elmira’s momentum. Treble knocked in one more with a base hit. After Trevor Rogers scored on a wild pitch, Kellerman completed his five-for-five night with a double that would score two more, making it 11-6.
