The Geneva Red Wings defeated the Adirondack Trail Blazers 3-1 on Friday on Sons/Daughters of Italy Night at McDonough Park thanks in part to a great outing from starting pitcher Kobie Punchard (Brockport). Punchard pitched five innings allow just one run while striking out six.
The Red Wings also provided just enough offense to back up the stellar pitching. It started in the 3rd when Trevor Rogers (San Francisco St) hit a solo homer in giving Geneva a 1-0 lead.
The very next inning, the Trail Blazers tied it up, as Jarrett Hall hit an RBI double. Geneva would regain the lead in the 7th, as Brock Kauffman(East Stroudsburg) hit an RBI single.
The Wings would then add an insurance run in the 8th as Jason Dumount’s base hit would send home Brandon Cooper (Adrian College) to make it 3-1.
Tim Blaisdell (Hartford) and Jacob Maser (LeMoyne) came in relief for Geneva and finished the game strong, shutting out the Trail Blazers.
Geneva’s has two games on the road against the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs and the Adirondack Trailblazers but returns home on Monday June 17 to face the Elmira Pioneers.
