The Geneva Red Wings (16-6) would move to 10 games over .500 on Monday afternoon with a doubleheader sweep of the Onondaga Flames (12-8).
Game 1
The Flames would get on the board first in the top of the opening frame, scoring on an E6.
The Red Wings would respond in the bottom of the 2nd, pushing across 4 runs in the frame. A Trustin Riley (University of Tampa) 2 RBI single would get Geneva on the scoreboard. An RBI single from Matt Chamberlain (University of New Haven) and an RBI fielder’s choice from Justin Barr (Central Alabama CC) would put the Wings up on top, 4-1.
Another pair of RBI singles from Matt Smith (UC Davis) and Justin Barr would extend the lead to 6-1 in the bottom of the 4th. To round things out, Jake Evans (Southern Alabama CC) would launch a 2 RBI double to left center in the 6th to make the score 8-1.
In the top of the 7th, a Kyle Gallagher (Ithaca) RBI single up the middle would plate 2 runs for the Flames, but the deficit would prove too hefty for an Onondaga comeback.
Alex Bellardini (4-0, Youngstown State) would earn his 4th win of the season with a complete game performance. 7.0 innings and 2 strikeouts later, Bellardini would come out with the W.
Game 2
The Geneva offense would start hot out of the gate in the second game of the day, plating 4 runs in the first inning. Matt Chamberlain would start things with a leadoff triple, and then Mikey Arman (Kenyon) would plate him with an RBI single. Arman would come around to score on a William Simoneit (Cornell) RBI double. To finish scoring in the frame, Joseph Tassin (Bossier Parish CC) would double home Jake Evans and William Simoneit.
An RBI groundout from Jake Evans would score Chamberlain in the bottom of the second, extending the Geneva lead to 5-0.
Anthony Scalzo (Gonzaga) hit a solo home run in the top of the 3rd to get the Flames on the board. Geneva’s starter Domenic Nardone (Siena) would throw 4.0 innings of 1 run ball in his spot start, good enough for the victory in the second game.
A sacrifice fly from Anthony Scalzo in the fifth inning would score Kyle Gallagher for the second and final run that Onondaga would score in the game.
In the bottom of the fifth, a 2 run home run to dead center from William Hampson (Southwest Tennessee CC) would make the score 7-2.
A total of three Geneva relievers would throw the final 3 innings of the game. Garrett Swanson (Kalamazoo) would pitch the fifth, allowing a lone run, Pat Connor (Monroe CC) would throw a perfect 6th, and Brent Holcombe (Bossier Parish CC) would close things out in the 7th.
